The Lip Serum That Sold Out Three Times Before Sephora Ever Stocked It
AORA México just became Sephora's first fully plastic-free beauty brand. For Florida's Latino beauty market, the timing could not feel more personal.
Before it ever touched a Sephora shelf, a spicy little lip serum called Acaríciame Más sold out three separate times. It built a following the hard way, through word of mouth and group chats. Shoppers found clean beauty did not have to be boring.
The serum belongs to AORA México, a Mexico City beauty brand making Sephora history this month. AORA arrived as the retailer's first fully plastic-free beauty brand. Every product ships in tin, aluminum, or wood instead of the usual acrylic and film. The launch lands during Plastic Free July, a global campaign built around cutting single-use plastic. It gives Florida shoppers early access to a label with years of buzz and no U.S. retail history.

Ahora or Never
AORA takes its name from ahora, the Spanish word for now. Nour Tayara and Rodrigo Peñafiel founded the brand in Mexico City in 2022. Their bet was simple: luxury beauty and environmental responsibility did not have to sit at opposite ends. Their formulas lean on Mexican-origin ingredients: five native chiles, tepezcohuite, and cactus flower, sourced for performance and story.
The collection reads like a study in restraint dressed up as indulgence. The Inícia Illuminating Primer sold out three times before its retail debut. It became a favorite among makeup artists trading tips online. The pyramid-shaped Mírame eyeshadow palette and a set of collectible leather Chile Carrier Charms round out the line. Prices run from $22 to $65, close to what shoppers already pay for prestige brands at Sephora.
Zero Plastic, Zero Apologies
None of it comes wrapped in plastic. rePurpose Global certified the brand's packaging claims. AORA says its customers have already helped remove more than 2,390 kilograms of plastic from nature. The brand ties the figure directly to every purchase. Prestige beauty counters usually gleam with acrylic compacts and cellophane. A full collection without any of it is still rare enough to stop shoppers mid-aisle.
Spanish-language packaging and bilingual content are still uncommon at major beauty retailers. AORA commits to every bit of it. Florida is home to one of the largest Latino populations of any state, concentrated heavily around Miami-Dade County. The arrival reads less like a routine retail update and more like recognition. A brand built on Mexican ingredients, in Spanish, on Sephora's biggest stage is not a hard sell here. Florida already knows the culture behind it.
For now, the collection lives online only, at Sephora, with the brand's zero-plastic display already built for retail partners. Florida shoppers in Miami, Orlando, and Tampa should watch their local Sephora as the rollout continues. Nothing in stores has been confirmed yet.
"This is the moment we built AORA for," said Nour Tayara, AORA's co-founder, in a statement announcing the Sephora partnership. "Sephora sets the standard in beauty, and when it embraces a new idea, the industry pays attention. This launch proves that plastic-free luxury is no longer a niche concept. It belongs at the center of the beauty industry, and we're proud to show that a brand born in Mexico can help define what's next."
For a brand named after the word now, the timing looks intentional.
